The BRP Modified Tour honored the top 20 drivers in the Series Point Standings with an Open House and Social Gathering on Saturday, January 27th at Big Daddy’s Speed Shop in Grove City, PA. Over 100 people attended the event, which honored the top DIRT Modified drivers and teams competing in the regional series.
Rex King of Bristolville, OH captured his second consecutive tour championship in 2006. En route to the championship King captured four of the tour’s eight feature events and defeated runner-up Brian Swartzlander by just 18 points. King received the $4,000.00 champion’s portion of the point fund along with contingency awards from The Hooter Chassis and Hobby Shop and Big Daddy’s Speed Shop. King acknowledged his crew that includes Crew Chief John Zdelar as well as Don Nichols, Matt McCrimmon, Mark Bates, Beth and Megan Perry, Tom and Marlene Hillman and his sons, Rex and Russell, and wife Sis.
Following Swartzlander to complete the top five were Russell King, Del Rougeux Jr. and Kevin Bolland.
Dave Murdick of Slippery Rock, PA received the BRP Tour Hard Charger Award as he passed the most cars in each of series eight feature events.
A special Appreciation Award was presented to Pete and Nancy Bicknell who own Bicknell Racing Products and have sponsored the Modified Tour since its inception in 1998.
It was also announced that Ron Smoker of Hamburg, NY will once again return to compete in the 2007 Mod Tour events. Smoker was the series champion in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and will be returning after a two year hiatus from racing.
Series President Ed Sanner announced that the tour will compete on asphalt for the first time ever as a tour event is scheduled to take place at the Lake Erie Speedway in September. Further details of the 2007 schedule will be announced shortly.

The Modified Tour Inc. racing series is a non-profit organization established to give the V-8 Modifieds in the Western Pennsylvania area a chance to compete with one another for a higher purse structure and for a point fund for the races that are run. Started in 1998 by Tim Engles, Lon and Pam Baker and Randy Myers the Modified Tour has had great success at bringing the local cars together at the area racetracks.
