Busy Holiday Weekend Ahead for Modified Tour

The stars and cars of the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour will have a busy Labor Day weekend. They will kick-off the Oil Region Labor Day Classic Weekend at H & H Motorsports Tri-City Speedway. Then, when the World of Outlaws Late Models roll in for their two-day extravaganza, the Big Block Modifieds will head south to Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway to wrap up their holiday racing activity.

Friday night’s action at Tri-City will start at 7:30 p.m. In addition to the usual card of four heat races and twin B Mains, the ground pounding Big Blocks will contest a special dash for the heat race winners. A cool thousand dollars will be on the line for that race alone! The winner will take home $400, with second paying $300, third $200 and fourth $100. The race at Tri-City will conclude with a 40 lap feature paying $3,000 to win. An enlarged field of 28 cars will start the feature.

The program at Tri-City will be dedicated to Roy Sanner, the late Modified Tour Board Member who lost his life in a highway accident earlier this season. Also being recognized will be his companion, Eva Struthers. She also perished in the June 16 accident.

After the races at Tri-City, there will be a pit party for the Mod Tour teams and fans, with entertainment being provided by a DJ.

Saturday night, the Modified Tour will make its second appearance at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. Miley Motorsports will present Modisaurus X on Dirt’s Monster Half Mile. The race will go 30 laps in distance and the winner will receive $1,500. The green flag will drop at 7:00 p.m. at PPMS.

The holiday weekend races will give drivers two chances to accumulate important championship points. Two former champs lead the way, with a mere two points separating Dave Murdick, the leader, from Rex King, Sr. Del Rougeux, Jr., Jumpin’ Joe Crawford, Jeremiah Shingledecker, and Kevin Hoffman are within striking distance of the leaders. Rex King, Jr., the Harrisville Hustler Dean Pearson and Tommy Mattocks round out the top ten.

Revin’ Kevin Bolland, winner of three straight Modified Tour races this season and the all-time leader in feature event wins, lurks in the eleventh spot. Although he has had great success on the Tour thus far in 2009, he missed the opening race at Mercer Raceway Park in March, severely handicapping his chances at his first Mod Tour point crown.

The next BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour events will be on Friday, September 11, at Lernerville Speedway, Sarver, PA; and Saturday, September 19, at Sharon Speedway, Hartford, OH.
