An Open Letter From Modified Tour President Ray Baselj

BRP Modified Tour Fans, Race Teams and Participating Tracks

Wow! What an exciting season going on with the BRP Modified Tour Racing Series. We have had outstanding races with an average car count of 35 and great fan attendance. As of today, two points separate Dave Murdick (251) and Rex King, Sr. (249) with Del Rouguex, Jr., knocking at the door only 21 points behind with four races left in the series.

We are looking at an exciting upcoming Labor Day race weekend. Friday night, September 4, 2009 the BRP Modified Tour will be at Tri City Speedway in Franklin, PA with an exciting 40-lap race for $3,000 to win and a $1,000 Dash for Cash for the big block modifieds. Following the races there will be a party for the Modified Tour drivers, crews, and fans as well as fellow competitors in other participating divisions to the DJ music of Intent (The Dick and Jane Show). Also at Tri City Speedway on Friday night there will be wristbands sold in memory of Roy Sanner who was a Modified Tour board member and a beloved member of the Tri City Speedway community. They will be sold at the grandstand and pit gates for $2.00 and the money will go to the Roy Sanner Memorial Fund. Also, all Valley Grove School students will receive $5.00 off a general admission ticket. There will also be a tribute walk around the race track before the start of the BRP Modified Tour feature for anyone who would like to walk the track in memory of Roy or for anyone that has lost a loved one. On Saturday night, September 5, 2009 we will be traveling to Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, Imperial, PA for our second race this season.

The BRP Modified Tour board and I would like to thank the racers and fans for the tremendous support in 2009 as well as in years past. As we all know times are financially draining yet fans and race teams have gathered together to make the BRP Modified Touring Series a growing and continuing success.

At the present time, there are two series in our region that are on the rise and moving ahead with great support. The BRP Modified Tour series and the FASTRACK Late Models both have sent racers to Super Dirt Week in Syracuse, NY (Russell King, Kevin Bolland, Dave Murdick and Brian Swartzlander) as well as Max Blair winning the National Championship for FASTRAK Late Models. Personally I believe that these two touring divisions are bringing national recognition to our area.

This year the Super DIRTcar Series and the BRP Modified Tour will have a co-sanctioned race at Lernerville Speedway on Friday, September 11, 2009 with $6,000 to win and a total $33,000 purse. The final race of the BRP Modified Tour series will be at Sharon Speedway on September 19, 2009 with more details coming.

The winner of the BRP Modified Tour series along with receiving $4,000 in point fund money will get a guaranteed starting position at Super Dirt Week in Syracuse, NY in October. I am also pleased to announce that positions 21-25 have been added to the already 20 positions that will receive point fund money. Positions 21-25 will receive $250 for their finishing position in points. Thanks to continued loyal major sponsorship from Sunoco/Bazell Oil, Bicknell Racing Products, Hoosier Tire and World Racing Group as well as our many Associate and Contingency Sponsors ( Please check web site at www.modifiedtourinc.com for associate and contingency sponsor list). We will hopefully try to get more in 2010.

To the BRP Modified Tour tracks (Tri City, Lernerville, Sharon, Expo, Eriez, Tyler County, Mercer) I would like to thank you for your continued support especially the tracks that have increased their number of races for 2009 (Tri City Speedway, Mercer Raceway Park). I would also like to welcome Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway to the BRP Modified Tour family of tracks who gave us our first Modified race there in the past 10 years. They must have been pleased as they added a second show for 2009 coming up this Saturday evening.

It is the intention and focus of myself and the BRP Modified Tour board to bring local as well as national recognition to this group of drivers, fans, and race tracks. As much as the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins believe they have the greatest and dedicated fans in the country I believe that we carry the same Western PA loyalty, heart and spirit as these teams do. We the local racing community have the best fans, tracks and racers, so let’s show them who we are by supporting your local race tracks and racers.

Finally I would like to thank all the BRP Modified Tour board members, past and present, for their continued, undying support to make this series a success. Please take a look at our web site at www.modifiedtourinc.com to get upcoming race information, as well as major and associate sponsor info, race news and results.

Please support our sponsors and BRP Modified Tour tracks as they do us. See you at the races.

Thanks,

Ray Baselj
